Our Story
text+ was launched in 2009 in Venice, California, the scrappy stretch of Los Angeles coastline that gave the world skate culture. It's a fitting birthplace: Venice has always rewarded people who would rather build their own thing than wait for permission.
Mobile phones were fast becoming our primary connection to the world, yet the cost and complexity of maintaining a second line for work or privacy remained a barrier for millions. We saw an opportunity to fix that with software.
By routing calls and texts over the internet instead of expensive carrier networks, text+ was born. What started as a simple app for free texting has grown into a service used by over 150 million people worldwide, still rooted in the same Venice spirit it started with.
